Species and origin are matched to the end-application: radiata for furniture, edge-glued panels and general joinery; Scots pine for site-grade timber and traditional joinery.

    EGYPT MARKET OVERVIEW

Pine Timber in the Egyptian market

Pine is one of the highest-volume softwood species entering Egypt. Radiata pine from Chile, New Zealand and Uruguay, and Scots pine from Northern Europe, together serve furniture producers, door and window makers, pallet plants and construction traders across the country. The Egyptian market is deep and price-competitive, and origin selection is driven by economics and availability as much as species preference.

The Damietta furniture cluster consumes radiata pine at scale for edge-glued panels, cabinet components and door cores. Cairo, Alexandria and 10th of Ramadan producers use both radiata and Scots pine across joinery, mouldings and traditional carpentry. Pallet manufacturers absorb significant volumes of construction-grade pine.

TIC Dubai ships pine direct from qualified origin mills to Alexandria, Damietta, Port Said and Sokhna in full container loads on CFR terms.

Radiata pine is generally KD 12–15% for furniture and moulding work; Scots pine ships at 15–18% for construction and traditional carpentry. Furniture buyers should specify the tighter moisture band explicitly.

Grade nomenclature differs by origin: Chilean and New Zealand mills use their own grading systems (Clears, Industrial, No. 2) while European Scots pine follows Nordic grades (Unsorted, V, VI).

FSC / PEFC certification is available across most origins at a modest premium and should be requested at enquiry stage, it is not standard by default.

    CONTAINER LOADING & PROCUREMENT

How shipments are booked, loaded and sent to Egypt

A 40' container carries roughly 55–65 m³ of sawn pine depending on section and pack length distribution. Radiata pine typically loads at higher volumes than Scots pine due to more uniform pack construction.

Timber ships strapped and weather-protected. Packing lists state section, grade, length distribution and pack count. Long lengths (4.8 m and above) require specific loading discipline.

Mixed origin loads (radiata + Scots pine) generally are not economic because origins differ; mixed-section loads within a single origin are standard.

    QUALITY CONTROL & MILL DOCUMENTATION

What accompanies every pine timber shipment

Every origin mill is pre-qualified on grading, kiln-drying, dimensional accuracy and pack construction. Mill certificates and grade reports accompany each shipment.

Third-party pre-shipment inspection is standard practice at Chilean, New Zealand and European load ports for buyers who request it, the load-port inspection industry serving pine is mature.

FSC / PEFC certification, when specified, travels with the shipment as a chain-of-custody document supporting the buyer's downstream compliance.

    FACTORY-DIRECT PROCUREMENT

Forward bookings, OEM and mill representation

Forward mill bookings: pallet plants and furniture producers with continuous consumption regularly reserve mill capacity 2–3 shipments ahead to lock price and secure grade allocation.

OEM / private label: pack markings and packing labels can be adjusted for distributor branding on larger orders.

Mill representation: TIC represents mills across multiple origins so Egyptian buyers can pivot between South American, New Zealand and European sources under one commercial relationship as market conditions shift.
