Scale and origin
1.7 million hectares of plantation forest, 90% Pinus radiata, producing 35-40 million m³ of harvested wood annually. Exports of unprocessed logs run 18-22 million m³ per year, predominantly to China, Korea, Japan and India, with growing volumes to the Middle East and South-East Asia.
Export ports
Port of Tauranga (the largest log export port globally), Port of Napier, Port of Wellington, CentrePort, Lyttelton, Port Otago and Bluff/Invercargill. Tauranga alone handles 7-9 million m³/year of log exports across multiple loading berths.
Sustainability credentials
Over 60% of NZ plantation forest is FSC® or PEFC certified. EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) due-diligence is supported via traceable origin records. Plantation harvest is replanted within 12-18 months, net deforestation is zero across the production estate.
Why NZ pine ships to the GCC
Bulk carrier economics: a single NZ-to-Jebel-Ali voyage moves 40,000-60,000 m³, with per-cubic-metre freight cost competitive against any alternative origin. Documentation: NZ export framework is mature, transparent and accepted by GCC customs without friction. Quality consistency: plantation-grown logs deliver tight SED distribution and predictable grade.
