Germany
Germany has the largest standing volume of European beech (~635 million m³) and the largest annual harvest. State forests in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Thuringia are the dominant sources. Premium colour, FSC/PEFC certified, mature sawmill industry. Lead time to Jebel Ali: 28-35 days from Hamburg or Bremerhaven.
Croatia and Slovenia
The Karst beech belt produces some of Europe's finest premium-grade beech. Croatian Hrvatske Sume and Slovenian SiDG are the dominant state forest operators. High-quality, tight-grained, very pale natural colour ideal for steaming. Lead time to Jebel Ali: 25-30 days from Koper or Rijeka.
Romania
The largest beech forest area in Europe (~2.5 million hectares). Mature export industry, predominantly steamed and unsteamed sawn lumber and edge-glued panel. Best price-to-quality ratio for industrial and B/BC grade beech. Lead time to Jebel Ali: 25-32 days from Constanta.
Austria and Czech Republic
Austrian and Czech beech is premium-grade and FSC-dominant. Higher cost than Romanian or Croatian beech, but consistent in colour and grade. Used by premium furniture brands and Buchensperrholz manufacturers.
Turkey (Oriental beech)
Fagus orientalis from Turkish state forests is broadly interchangeable with European beech for joinery and furniture. Shortest shipping lead time to the GCC (10-18 days from Istanbul or Mersin). Increasingly important supply origin as European volumes tighten.
Why GCC buyers diversify across beech origins
Origin diversification spreads risk across European weather, labour and regulatory events. Spec optionality, each origin produces a slightly different colour band, grade mix and price point, lets buyers match the source to the end-use specification. EUDR compliance is broadly equivalent across all EU origins; non-EU origins (Turkey) require separate due-diligence.
