    Technical reference

    What is Aluminium Alloy 3105?

Aluminium Alloy 3105 is a manganese–magnesium aluminium alloy optimised for pre-painted, colour-coated and roll-formed architectural sheet. Manganese supplies moderate strength while magnesium improves paint adhesion, dent resistance and forming behaviour. 3105 is non-heat-treatable; tempers are developed by cold rolling. It is the most widely used coil substrate for architectural cladding, roofing, rainscreen, gutters and flashings worldwide.

3105 is supplied predominantly as coated coil (PE, PVDF, plastisol). It roll-forms, brake-bends and trims cleanly. Welding is rarely required in its target applications but follows standard 3xxx practice.

    Applications

    Where 3105 is specified.

    • Pre-painted roofing & cladding coil
    • Rainscreen and façade systems
    • Gutters, downpipes and flashings
    • Mobile-home and trailer side sheet
    • Chequered & tread plate (light-duty)
    • Bottle caps and closures

    Advantages

    • Engineered for paint, PVDF and powder-coat finishes
    • Excellent roll-forming and bending behaviour
    • Better dent resistance than 1100 / 3003
    • Excellent corrosion resistance in architectural exposure

    Limitations

    • Not heat-treatable
    • Strength still moderate; not a structural alloy
