    Pine Log Export Specifications for GCC Importers

    What needs to be in the file before the vessel leaves origin, and what to check on arrival at Jebel Ali, Sohar or Dammam.

    Documentation set

    Original Bill of Lading (or Mate's Receipt for break-bulk), commercial invoice, packing list with log tally, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate issued at load port by the competent plant-protection authority, fumigation certificate (where required by destination), inspection report from SGS/BV/TUV, and species verification certificate where the contract requires botanical confirmation.

    Phytosanitary requirements

    Pine logs are inspected at origin for pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus), pine bark beetles, longhorn beetles and blue stain fungi. Some destinations require methyl bromide fumigation, heat treatment or kiln drying before shipment; others accept origin phytosanitary certification alone. Confirm GCC destination requirements with your clearing agent before order placement.

    Shipping modes and units

    Bulk carrier: the dominant mode for radiata pine from NZ and Chile to GCC ports, 25,000 to 60,000 m³ per vessel, discharging at Jebel Ali, Hamriyah, Sohar or Dammam over 5-10 days. Break-bulk: 5,000 to 15,000 m³ general cargo shipments via Liner services. Container: 20'/40' open-top containers for smaller shipments, ~22-26 m³ per 40' OT.

    Load-port inspection scope

    Third-party inspection covers species verification, SED measurement on a statistically valid sample, length verification, grade classification against the contract grading rules, quantity reconciliation by tally count and JAS-m³ or Smalian volume calculation, defect classification, loading photographs and vessel hold supervision.
