Reuse by density and film grade
Hardwood-core WBP panels with 220 g/m² film: 25-40+ reuses on flat-wall shutters; 40-60+ on slab tables with prompt cleaning. Combi-core WBP panels: 15-25 reuses. Poplar-core commercial panels: 8-15 reuses. These ranges assume good handling, edge sealing and immediate cleaning.
How concrete type affects panel wear
Standard C30-C40 concrete is gentle on film. High-flow self-compacting concrete with admixtures can be more aggressive. Concrete with retarders or coloured oxides requires faster stripping and more careful cleaning to prevent film staining. Architectural concrete with no plaster backup demands the highest film quality from pour one.
Handling practices that extend or reduce life
Prompt cleaning with wooden scrapers and water extends life significantly. Stacking panels wet face-to-face causes film transfer and staining. Dropping panels from height creates corner delamination. Storing in direct UAE summer sun softens the film adhesive. Simple site discipline is the biggest factor in achieving the upper end of the reuse range.
When to retire a panel
Retire panels when: film shows visible lifting or peeling at the edges; core plies are exposed through wear; panel warps more than 3mm over 2440mm; or concrete finish quality drops below specification on two consecutive pours. Continuing with worn panels creates remedial costs that exceed replacement cost.
