Film Faced Plywood Checklist for Contractors

Print-ready checklist for site foremen and QC teams receiving film-faced plywood deliveries across UAE, Saudi Arabia and GCC projects.

    Receiving inspection checklist

Upon delivery, check: sheet count matches packing list; no visible transit damage; film surface is scratch-free on 90% of sheets; edge sealant is present on all four sides; MTC or CoO documents are in the envelope. Reject batches with more than 5% edge-seal defects or visible core gaps.

    Density and thickness verification

Randomly weigh 3 sheets per 100 delivered. Target 29-32 kg for 18mm hardwood core. Measure thickness at 4 points per sheet with a digital caliper; tolerance should be within +/- 0.5mm of nominal. Record readings in the site log for traceability.

    On-site storage requirements

Store horizontally on level timbers or pallets, never directly on sand or concrete. Cover with a breathable tarp, not plastic sheeting that traps condensation. In UAE summer, avoid storage against south-facing walls where panels can reach 60°C and soften the film adhesive.

    Handling and reuse tracking

Lift panels by the edges, not by flexing the centre. Clean concrete residue immediately after stripping with a wooden scraper and water; avoid metal tools that gouge the film. Mark each panel with its pour count so the foreman retires it before delamination risk rises.

    Cutting and edge re-sealing protocol

Every site-cut panel must have its exposed core re-sealed with waterborne acrylic within 24 hours. Maintain a dedicated brush and sealant bucket at the cutting station. Unsealed cuts are the fastest route to moisture ingress and panel failure.

    Frequently asked questions

How should I store plywood on a sandy site?
Lay on timber skids or pallets at least 150mm above ground, with a breathable cover. Direct ground contact wicks moisture and abrades edges.
What is the maximum acceptable film scratch percentage?
For architectural concrete, zero scratches on the pour face. For structural concrete, minor scratches on up to 10% of sheets are acceptable if not on the central pour zone.
How do I track reuse counts per panel?
Mark the reverse face with spray paint or permanent marker after every 5 pours. Retire panels at the manufacturer's recommended cycle or when film lifting first appears.
