Heavy-load formwork for infrastructure
Bridge decks, culverts and tunnel linings place higher concrete pressures and longer pour durations than building slabs. Infrastructure programmes should specify 18mm-21mm hardwood-core WBP panels with 220 g/m² film as the baseline. For heavily reinforced thick sections, 21mm panels reduce deflection and improve safety margins.
Outdoor exposure and weather resistance
Infrastructure formwork sits outdoors for months, exposed to GCC summer heat, dust storms and occasional rain. WBP phenolic glue lines are mandatory; MR or commercial glue will fail under these conditions. Factory edge sealing and prompt re-sealing of all cuts are critical maintenance items.
Reuse on long infrastructure programmes
Road and bridge programmes often run 18-36 months. Premium panels with tracked reuse counts and disciplined cleaning can serve the entire programme without replacement. Budget for a 15% spare stock allowance to cover damage and wear, rather than emergency reorders at higher prices.
Curved and irregular shutters
Tunnel portals, wing walls and curved bridge parapets require plywood that bends without cracking along the grain. Hardwood-core panels with thin, uniform face veneers perform better than thick-veneer panels on radius work. Test-bend a sample panel to the required radius before ordering the batch.
