Buying on price per sheet without modelling reuse
The most common mistake: choosing the cheapest sheet without calculating cost per usable pour. A low-density panel at $19 that lasts 10 pours costs almost double per pour compared to a $28 panel that lasts 40 pours. Always model total programme cost.
Accepting MR glue instead of WBP
Some suppliers offer MR (Moisture Resistant) melamine-urea film-faced plywood at WBP prices. MR is not boil-proof and will delaminate under concrete moisture and UAE summer heat. Verify the glue line on the mill certificate explicitly states WBP phenolic to EN 314-2 Class 3.
Ignoring edge sealing
Panels without factory edge sealant, or with sealant that flakes off in transit, absorb moisture through the exposed core and delaminate within 5-10 pours. Inspect edge sealing on the sample batch before placing the main order.
Trusting certificates without mill verification
Trader-relabelled stock with forged or photocopied mill certificates is a known risk in the GCC market. Cross-check the mill name on the certificate with the factory name on the packing list and bill of lading. TIC Dubai supplies original mill documents direct from the producing plant.
Poor storage and handling on site
Even premium panels fail prematurely when stored on wet ground, left uncovered in rain, or dropped from height. Budget for proper storage: timber skids, breathable covers, and training for the handling crew.
