Okan (also called Adoum) is one of the densest African hardwoods - yellow-brown to reddish-brown, Class 1 durable, and resistant to insects and marine borers. Used as a substitute for Azobe in heavy structural, marine and bridge work.
Okan is often supplied as a direct alternative to Azobe for heavy civil and marine work - piling, sea defences, lock gates and bridge decking. Its density (around 950 kg/m³) and natural durability make it a long-life structural choice.
Okan is very hard on tools and demands carbide tooling and pre-drilling for all fixings. Best supplied cut to size with minimal on-site finishing.
