Aluminium Alloy 5086: Marine alloy: bridging 5052 and 5083.
A high-magnesium marine alloy that bridges 5052 and 5083, being stronger than 5052, more formable than 5083, and fully marine-certified.
What is Aluminium Alloy 5086?
Aluminium Alloy 5086 is a high-magnesium marine alloy that sits between 5052 and 5083 in both strength and formability. It is marine-certified under ASTM B928 in tempers H116 and H321, and is widely used for boat hulls, decks and superstructures where the extreme strength of 5083 is not required but corrosion performance must remain marine-grade.
5086 welds with 5356 or 5556 filler. Cold-forms more easily than 5083 and machines well. Specified frequently for cold-formed marine components where 5083 would be too stiff.
