What HMR actually is
HMR MDF uses a melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin system in place of standard UF, with paraffin wax additives that reduce moisture absorption. The board typically swells 7-10% in 24h water immersion (EN 317), compared to 12-17% for standard MDF.
GCC use cases
Kitchen carcasses, bathroom vanity sub-frames, laundry-room joinery, hotel back-of-house casework, and any internal application where condensation or splash exposure is expected. HMR is not exterior-grade; it should remain inside a sealed cabinet or behind a finished surface.
Where to avoid HMR
Don't specify HMR for permanent submersion, outdoor cladding, or applications where structural waterproofing is required; use marine ply or cement board instead.

Is HMR MDF waterproof?
No, it is moisture-resistant. Direct water contact will still degrade the board over time.
Why is HMR green in colour?
Most mills tint the resin green so HMR boards can be visually identified on site and at QC; it has no functional effect.
