The four families
1xxx (pure aluminium): corrosion-resistant, soft, used in chemical equipment and electrical conductors. 3xxx (Al-Mn): moderate strength, formable; the workhorse for general sheet metal and roofing. 5xxx (Al-Mg, including 5052 and 5083): high corrosion resistance, weldable; the GCC marine and structural sheet standard. 6xxx (Al-Mg-Si, including 6061 and 6063): heat-treatable, extruded; the architectural and engineering structural grade.
Marine, transport and outdoor
For yacht hulls, marine equipment in Dubai and Sharjah ports, food processing tanks and outdoor signage exposed to coastal humidity, 5052 and 5083 are the default. 5083 has higher magnesium and is preferred where weld strength matters; 5052 is the formable workhorse.
Architectural and structural
6061-T6 is the standard for extrusions, structural members and machined parts. 6063 is the dedicated architectural extrusion alloy, used in window and curtain wall systems specified across UAE and KSA projects.
