American White Ash combines high strength with elasticity, making it the preferred species for tool handles, sports equipment and steam-bent furniture. Pale cream sapwood and prominent open grain stain readily.
Ash is what baseball bats, axe handles and Windsor chairs are made of. Its long, straight fibres absorb shock without splintering and bend cleanly under steam. Ring-porous open grain is similar to oak but slightly more open - accepting filler and stain readily.
