American Black Cherry is treasured for its smooth fine grain and the way it darkens richly with light exposure. A classic Shaker and Federal-period cabinet wood, today used widely in premium furniture and architectural millwork.
Cherry's colour shift is dramatic - pale pinkish-tan boards become a rich reddish-brown within months of UV exposure. This is part of the wood's character, but masking during installation should be avoided to prevent uneven shading.
