    Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board.

A sustainable, bitumen-free expansion joint filler board manufactured from compressed wood fibres, engineered for concrete movement joints in highways, bridges, pavements and industrial floors across the UAE and GCC.

What is the Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board

A sustainable, fibre-based alternative for concrete expansion joints.

The Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board is a compressed wood-fibre expansion joint filler engineered as a sustainable alternative to traditional bitumen softboard. Olive-green in appearance and bitumen-free in composition, it is compressible, resilient and dimensionally stable, designed to absorb concrete movement in highways, bridges, pavements and industrial floors while supporting green-building submissions under Al Sa'fat, Estidama, SBC 601 and LEED.

    Properties

    Compressible, resilient, sustainable.

    Eco-Friendly Material

Manufactured from compressed wood fibres, a sustainable, bitumen-free alternative for concrete expansion joints, aligned with Estidama, Al Sa'fat and SBC 601 green-building intent.

    Compressible & Resilient

Engineered fibre matrix compresses under concrete movement and recovers between cycles, maintaining a sealed joint over the design life of the slab.

    Dimensionally Stable

Holds shape during the pour and across humid GCC conditions, preventing cement paste intrusion and joint loss.

    Sealant Compatible

Clean, non-bleeding upper surface accepts cold-applied polyurethane and silicone joint sealants without contamination of the bond line.

    Lightweight & Easy to Install

Significantly lighter than bitumen softboard of equivalent thickness, faster on-site handling, cleaner cutting and reduced labour cost on long pavement runs.

    Low Odour, Clean Handling

Bitumen-free composition means no asphalt smell, no staining of formwork or finished concrete, and safer indoor and confined-space installation.

    Infrastructure Use

Highways, bridges, pavements and industrial floors.

    Highway & Road Joints

Transverse and longitudinal expansion joints in concrete pavements where a sustainable, bitumen-free filler is specified.

    Bridge & Viaduct Joints

Deck joint fillers, precast segmental joints and approach-slab movement joints on infrastructure projects with green-building targets.

    Industrial & Warehouse Floors

Isolation joints at columns, free-edge joints and bay-to-bay expansion joints in heavy-duty concrete floors.

    Pavements & Hardstandings

Footpaths, plazas, car parks and container yards where movement joints must accept sealant and resist long-term compression set.

    Specification Use

    Sustainable and architectural projects.

    Water-Sensitive Areas

Plant rooms, MEP enclosures and indoor slabs where bitumen odour or migration is undesirable, but compressible joint filling is still required.

    Sustainable Project Specifications

Projects targeting LEED, Estidama Pearl, Al Sa'fat or SBC 601 credits for low-emission, fibre-based construction products.

    Precast Yards

Movement and isolation joints between precast elements, slabs and tilt-up panels in controlled manufacturing environments.

    Architectural Concrete

Visible joints in landscaped paving, podium decks and finished hardscape where a cleaner, non-bleeding filler face is preferred.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board: frequently asked.

What is the Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board?

An expansion joint filler board manufactured from compressed wood fibres, engineered as a sustainable, bitumen-free alternative to traditional bitumen softboard. It is compressible, resilient and dimensionally stable, used to fill concrete movement joints in highways, bridges, pavements and industrial floors.

How is it different from bitumen softboard?

Bitumen softboard is dark brown to black, impregnated with asphaltic bitumen, and is the traditional ASTM D1751 filler. The Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board is olive-green, fibre-based and bitumen-free. Both serve compression-dominated expansion joints; the eco-friendly board is selected where projects require a sustainable, low-odour or low-emission alternative.

    Is it really eco-friendly?

Yes, the board is manufactured from compressed wood fibres without bitumen or asphaltic binders. The fibre core is recyclable in fibre-recovery streams, has lower embodied emissions than bituminous fillers, and supports submissions to Al Sa'fat (Dubai), Estidama (Abu Dhabi), SBC 601 (Saudi Arabia) and LEED green-building frameworks.

    What does it look like?

Flat rectangular fibre boards with a clean, slightly fibrous edge, in a muted olive-green to greenish-grey tone. The form factor is similar to bitumen softboard, but the colour is distinctly lighter and the boards are notably less heavy per sheet.

    Where is it used?

Concrete expansion joints in highways, bridges, airports, industrial floors, warehouses, plazas and pavements, particularly on projects that prefer a sustainable, fibre-based filler over traditional bitumen-impregnated boards.

    Is it compatible with sealants?

Yes. The clean, non-bleeding upper face accepts cold-applied polyurethane and silicone joint sealants without contamination of the bond line. Detail the sealant cap with a backer rod at the correct width-to-depth ratio, in line with BS 5212 and DIN 18540.

What thicknesses and sizes are available?

Standard thicknesses range from 10 mm to 25 mm, with 20 mm and 25 mm being the most-specified for highway, bridge and industrial-floor joints. Sheet size is typically 1220 × 2440 mm. Cut-to-size sheets are available for project-specific use.

How does it compare with cork joint filler?

Cork (ASTM D1752 Type III) offers the highest recovery on cyclic extension and is preferred for water-retaining structures. The Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board sits between bitumen softboard and cork, significantly more sustainable than bitumen, more cost-effective than cork, and suitable for the broad majority of compression-dominated highway and structural joints.

Is it suitable for water-retaining structures?

For permanently submerged joints in tanks, reservoirs and STPs, ASTM D1752 Type III resin-bonded cork remains the first-choice filler. The Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Board is best used on highway, bridge, industrial-floor and pavement joints rather than below the water line.

    Does it support green-building credits?

Yes, fibre-based, bitumen-free composition is well-aligned with Al Sa'fat, Estidama Pearl, SBC 601 and LEED low-emission material credits. EPD and recycled-content documentation can be provided with the production batch on request.

Is it heavier or lighter than bitumen softboard?

Lighter. With no bitumen impregnation, the eco-friendly board is significantly lighter per sheet than bitumen softboard of equivalent thickness, faster on-site handling, cleaner cutting and reduced labour cost on long pavement runs.

Do you supply it in container loads to the GCC?

Yes. Eco-Friendly Joint Filler Boards are supplied in full and mixed container loads to contractors, infrastructure projects and precast yards across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, with full documentation suitable for consultant submission.
